PROTECT YOUR HOME FROM SUMMER PLUMBING PROBLEMS

Common Summer Plumbing Problems

  1. Sewer Line Backup: Excessive rain can get into sewer pipes through cracks and cause the sewer line to back up. Tree roots can spread underground and crack the sewer pipe. If you see any signs of sewer line trouble, call a qualified plumber to come check it out.
  2. Clogged Disposal: Be careful how you dispose of your food after your summer BBQs! If you are getting rid of hard fruits and vegetables like watermelon and corn, throw them in the garbage can. These types of fruits and vegetables can damage the garbage disposal blade and/or lead to stubborn clogs in the sink. Used cooking oil can also damage your garbage disposal. Avoid pouring oil down the drain after grilling out.
  3. Clogged Toilets: Household bathrooms are used more during the summer due to kids off of school and hosting summer parties. Common toilet clogs are due to excessive toilet paper in the bowl.
  4. Washing Machine: Your washing machine can get a great work out over the summer months. With children being home from school and swimming pool days, there is definitely more laundry to wash. Make sure your washing machine is pulled away from the wall so that the hose does not kink. If you see any water leaking from your washing machine, contact a professional to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
  5. Sprinkler maintenance: If you have a sprinkler system installed in your lawn, make sure to inspect and clean the heads of the sprinklers. This helps with any dirt that may be clogging the opening of the sprinkler so that water can flow naturally.
